Mogilny out 10 weeks after surgery

TORONTO, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Toronto right wing Alexander Mogilny will be sidelined 10 to 12 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left hip Wednesday.

"Alex's desire to continue to play through the injury speaks highly of his commitment to the team and to our fans," Leafs General Manager John Ferguson said. "After receiving the evaluation Wednesday, we all felt that it was best to take care of this situation now."

Mogilny has missed seven games due to injury this season and has not played since Friday. He is third on the team in scoring with five goals and seven assists in 15 games.

The 34-year-old Russian is 11 points away from the 1,000 mark, totaling 458 goals and 531 assists in 934 games with Buffalo, Vancouver, New Jersey and Toronto.
