Keon Clark has ankle surgery

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Veteran center Keon Clark of the Utah Jazz could miss as many as 12 weeks after undergoing surgery on his right ankle.

In the procedure, performed at Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Van Nuys, Calif., Dr. Richard Ferkel removed scar tissue and a bone spur, and smoothed down other bone spur spots. There was some arthritis in the ankle joint.

He is scheduled to have his cast and stitches removed on Dec. 9, then will be placed in another cast for up to two weeks.

The rehab period originally was six to eight weeks, but trainer Gary Briggs told the Salt Lake Tribune that prognosis was "best case."

"It could be 9-12," Briggs told the paper. "We won't know until he progresses through the rehab period."

The 7-0 Clark, acquired in a trade with Sacramento last summer, has played in just two games this season, averaging 2.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest.

He will rehab at his home in Danville, Ill.
