Mike Hargrove rejoins Cleveland Indians

CLEVELAND, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Indians Yuesday named Mike Hargrove as senior advisor to baseball operations.

The 54-year-old Hargrove compiled a 721-591 record as Indians manager from 1991-99, leading the team to two trips to the World Series and five straight American League Central Division titles (1995-99). Only Hall of Famer Lou Boudreau won more games (728) as Indians manager.

"Mike Hargrove is and always will be a Cleveland Indian," said Indians Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark Shapiro. "In addition to being a link to our championship past, his professionalism, baseball knowledge and experience will make him a valuable contributor to the next era of championship-caliber baseball for the Cleveland Indians."

In this role, Hargrove will assist all minor league staff members in a developmental and mentor capacity while serving as an advisor to Indians Manager Eric Wedge and his coaches.
