USA trails by one point at UBS Cup

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Carl Mason and Bill Longmuir rallied for a surprising victory Saturday that helped give the Rest of the World team the lead at the UBS Cup.

The British duo edged former major winners Mark O'Meara and Craig Stadler as the teams split their six matches. That gave the World team a lead of 6 1/2-5 1/2 with 12 singles matches scheduled for Sunday.

While the World team features Colin Montgomerie, Bernhard Langer and Nick Faldo, Mason and Longuir stood out Saturday. They rallied from three holes down with six to play to win, 1-up.

The American effort was highlighted by Curtis Strange and Arnold Palmer downing Tony Jacklin and Nick Faldo, 4 & 3.
