TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Nov. 15 (UPI) -- No. 11 Florida State withstood a superb passing performance by Phillip Rivers Saturday to rally for a 50-44 double overtime victory over N. C. State.
Rivers completed 28-of-38 passes for 422 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score. But his fourth-down incompletion in the second OT set the stage for the game-winning 12-yard TD run by Leon Washington, who had 121 yards on 17 carries.
A win by the Wolfpack (7-4 would have opened up the ACC crown for themselves, the Seminoles or Maryland. Instead, Florida State (9-2) won the ACC for the 11th time in 12 years since joining the league in 1992.
Chris Rix threw three TD passes for the Seminoles, who are 90-6 all-time in the ACC.
The game featured four ties and three lead changes. The Seminoles trailed by 10 points in the second quarter.
