DENVER, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Rookie defender Nat Borchers scored in the second half Tuesday as Colorado rallied for a 1-1 tie with Kansas City in the first game of their semifinal series.
Game Two of the total goals series is Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium, where a win by either team would send it to the Western Conference final against San Jose or Los Angeles. Should Saturday's game also end in a tie, the winner will be determined by a 30-minute golden goal overtime.
In the 53rd minute, midfielder Kyle Beckerman swung a pass into the penalty area. Borchers rose above his defender and nodded the ball past diving goalkeeper Tony Meola for his first professional goal.
The Wizards jumped on top in the third minute on Wolde Harris' first goal in a Kansas City uniform.
