NEW YORK, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Pitcher Mike Mussina was a Gold Glove winner for a sixth time Tuesday when the 2003 American League team was announced.
Mussina, known for his fielding prowess, had 49 chances without an error during the 2003 season. He had been beaten out by Kenny Rogers in 2002.
At the time, Rogers, now with Minnesota, was with the Texas Rangers.
The veteran New York Yankees' righthander was joined by four members of the Seattle Mariners - first baseman John Olerud, second baseman Bret Boone, and outfielders Mike Cameron and Ichiro Suzuki.
The Mariners set a major league record for fewest errors in a 162-game season.
Boone was a winner in 2002, Olerud now is a three-time winner, Cameron won in 2001, and Suzuki made it three wins in three years.
The Mariners committed 65 errors in 2003, five fewer than the New York Mets in 1999.
Rounding out the team were Anaheim catcher Bengi Molina, Oakland third baseman Eric Chavez, Texas shortstop Alex Rodriguez, and Minnesota centerfielder Torri Hunter.
