Gaborik signs with Wild

ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Four days after it appeared negotiations had fallen apart, the Minnesota Wild and star right wing Marian Gaborik settled on a multi-year deal Friday.

Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough made the announcement after Gaborik practiced with the team for the first time since the season began.

Terms were not disclosed, but there were reports that Gaborik signed a three-year contract worth $10 million, plus bonuses.

A restricted free agent, Gaborik, 21, threatened to return to his native Slovakia after the two sides broke off talks on Monday.

But with the Wild languishing in last place in the Northwest Division with a 2-6-1 record, an agreement was reached.

The first-ever draft pick of the Wild, Gaborik was selected third overall in 2000. He has scored 30 goals each of the last two seasons.
