Pistons ink Tremaine Fowlkes

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- The Detroit Pistons, needing to fill a roster spot, have signed defensive-minded forward Tremaine Fowlkes.

The 6-8 Fowlkes recently was waived by the Los Angeles Clippers after collecting six rebounds and two points in two preseason games. He averaged 4.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest in 59 games over two seasons with the Clippers.

Fowlkes was signed to replace guard Lindsey Hunter, who was placed on the injured list with a strained right hamstring.

Hunter, originally a 1993 first-round pick of Detroit, was acquired during the offseason in a trade that sent swingman Michael Curry to the Toronto Raptors.

He has averaged 10.4 points and 3.0 assists with the Pistons, Milwaukee, the Los Angeles Lakers and Raptors. He won a championship with the Lakers in 2002, but has changed teams after each of the last four seasons.

The two-time defending Central Division champion Pistons host Indiana in their regular season opens Wednesday night.
