SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- As expected, the San Francisco 49ers have released placekicker Owen Pochman.
He was a major disappointment since signing with the Niners on Sept. 16 to replace Jeff Chandler. Pochman missed seven field goal attempts in his last four games.
His struggles were magnified in Sunday's 16-13 loss to Arizona, when he missed his only two field goal tries, including a potential go-ahead 35-yard attempt with 2:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, then sent the kickoff in overtime out of bounds to help set up the Cardinals' winning score.
Pochman made just 8-of-15 field goal attempts.
Peterson spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, going 12-of-21 on field goals. He also has played for Arizona and Kansas City in his career, and made 182-of-234 field goal attempts.
