ZURICH, Switzerland, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Justin Henin-Hardenne of Belgium secured the top spot in women's tennis Sunday with an easy 6-0, 6-4 victory over Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia.
The win came in the final of the $1.3 million Swisscom Challenge at Zurich.
Henin-Hardenne will overtake countrywoman Kim Clijsters in the top spot Monday, when the new WTA Tour rankings are released. She is the 13th woman to rise to the No. 1 spot since computer rankings were introduced on Nov. 3, 1975.
"All my life I have dreamed about winning Grand Slams and being No. 1 in the world," she said. "This is a special day for me and one I will remember forever. It's taking a while to sink in now, and I think it will take a few days to truly realize what has happened here."
Henin-Hardenne bagged her first two majors this season, winning the French and the U.S. Opens. On Sunday, she claimed her WTA Tour-leading eighth title.
