NHL: Edmonton 4, Buffalo 1

EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Ales Hemsky and Raffi Torres assisted on each other's goals 4:33 apart in the second period Thursday night as Edmonton beat Buffalo, 4-1.

The Oilers' dynamic duo gave Edmonton the lead when Torres intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and fed Hemsky streaking down the left side. Hemsky stopped at the left dot and beat Martin Biron on the stick side to make it 2-1 with 5:12 left in the second.

Defenseman Cory Cross got things going on Torres' goal, dumping the puck behind the Buffalo net. Hemsky got there, passed back to Torres, and the left wing backhanded the puck into the upper left corner of the net.

That goal made it 3-1 at the end of the second and Buffalo was unable to respond in the third. Rookie Ty Conklin made 31 saves for the win.
