MLB: NY Yankees 4, Boston 2

BOSTON, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- David Wells allowed one run in seven innings Tuesday as the New York Yankees posted a 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox in Game Five of the ALCS.

Karim Garcia delivered a key two-run single as the Yankees took a 3-2 lead with their American League Championship Series moving back to New York.

New York needs to win one of the next two games at home to secure its 39th American League pennant.

Wells allowed a homer to Manny Ramirez leading off the fourth and three singles. Pitching for the first time since Oct. 5, the lefthander walked two, struck out five and ran his career postseason record to 10-2

After Wells got the final seven batters he faced, Mariano Rivera came on in the eighth. He surrendered a leadoff triple to Todd Walker that led to one run.

Garcia hit a bases-loaded single off Boston starter Derek Lowe.
