Federer wins CA Tennis Trophy title

VIENNA, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Roger Federer captured his ATP-tying sixth title of the season Sunday with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory over second seed Carlos Moya of Spain in the CA Tennis Trophy.

Locked in a three-way battle with Andy Roddick and Juan Carlos Ferrero for the year-end No. 1 ranking, Federer improved his ATP-best record to 67-14 and won for the 17th time in 18 indoor matches this season. He defeated Moya for the third time in as many meetings.

The top-seeded Swiss defended a title for the first time. He captured the ninth tournament of his career and first since Wimbledon in July.

The 27-year-old Moya failed to gain his fourth title of the season and 15th of his career, but moved closer to securing a berth to the season-ending Tennis Masters Cup in Houston.
