Clippers ink Glen Rice

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Veteran forward Glen Rice, released a week ago by Utah, has signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Rice, 36, third all-time in three-pointers made, was released by the Jazz after reaching an undisclosed buyout agreement on the final year of his contract, valued at $9 million.

Three days earlier, Utah obtained Rice and an undisclosed amount of cash from the Houston Rockets for reserve center John Amaechi and a second-round pick.

By trading for Rice and buying him out, the Jazz reached the salary floor of $32 million. He will more suited to the Clippers, who need lost solid perimeter shooting after losing guards Eric Piatkowski and Andre Miller to free agency.

Rice averaged only 8.9 points in just 82 games over two seasons with the Rockets because of injuries. He has made 1,554 three-pointers and won the Long Distance Shootout at All-Star Weekend in 1995.

In 982 games with Miami, Charlotte, the Lakers, New York, and Houston, he has averaged 18.6 points and is a three-time All-Star.
