NHL: Los Angeles 3, Pittsburgh 0

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Eric Belanger scored just 38 seconds into the game on a shorthanded breakaway Friday night, starting Los Angeles on its way to a 3-0 win over Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury made 46 saves and stopped a penalty shot in his NHL debut. But he surrendered a goal on the first shot he saw.

Just the second goaltender in NHL history to be selected first overall in the entry draft, Fleury was beaten by Belanger with a wrist shot over the goalie's left shoulder.

Fleury, who became the seventh goalie under the age of 19 to start an NHL game, was spectacular the rest of the way. He agreed to a contract just before Monday's eligibility deadline.

Cristobal Huet stopped all 11 shots he faced to record his second career shutout.
