EUGENE, Ore., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Matt Kegel threw three touchdown passes and No. 21 Washington State took advantage Saturday of nine Oregon turnovers by No. 15 Oregon to post a 55-16 victory.
The Pac-10 Conference opener for both teams saw the Ducks come out flat, disorganized and error-prone andthey trailed 38-2 at halftime.
Oregon Coach Mike Bellotti called it the "worst half of football he had ever seen," as his team endured its worst loss since a 54-0 setback to Washington on Oct. 8, 1977.
Kellen Clemens and Jason Fife combined to throw five interceptions in the first half, one of which was returned 40 yards for a score by Virgil Williams. The duo had not thrown an interception before Saturday, but combined for seven Saturday.
The Ducks (4-1) also had a pair of punts blocked in the first half, one of which was returned five yards for a score by Jeremy Bohannon.
