Virginia Tech 47, Connecticut 13

BLACKSBURG, Va., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Fifth-ranked Virginia Tech scored two defensive touchdowns and another on Mike Imoh's kickoff return and rolled past Connecticut, 47-13.

The undermanned Huskies lost star running back Terry Caulley to a knee injury early in the game. He entered the game as the nation's leading rusher with 601 yards, but was injured on his second carry. He was carried off the field by teammates and did not return.

In just their third year on the Division I-A level, the Huskies (3-2) have made significant strides and will join the Big East next year. They entered the game with the nation's fourth-best offense, but were no match for the Hokies (4-0), who dominated the contest.

Imoh returned the second half kickoff 91 yards, becoming the first Virginia Tech player to score on a kickoff return since Tony Kennedy did it against Louisville in 1992.

Tailback Kevin Jones had 105 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, his second straight 100-yard game.
