CINCINNATI, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Sean Casey's two-run homer highlighted a six-run sixth Thursday night as Cincinati handed Chicago a critical loss, 9-7.
The Cubs lapsed into a tie for first place in the NL Central with Houston. Chicago will play its last three games in Pittsburgh while Houston will host Milwaukee three times.
If Chicago and Houston finish tied, they will have a one-game playoff Monday in Chicago.
The Cubs built a 3-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings on a solo homer by Kenny Lofton and a two-run shot by Sammy Sosa. Sosa also hit a solo shot in the eighth and moved past Mickey Mantle into 10th place on the all-time list with 538 career homers.
But the Reds took advantage of tiring Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano (13-11) in the sixth to turn a 4-2 deficit into a four-run lead.
