MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Michael Cuddyer hit a solo homer in the eighth Wednesday night as Minnesota extended its winning streak to 11 games with a 3-2 win over Cleveland.
One night after clinching its second straight AL Central title, Minnesota Manager Ron Gardenhire fielded a lineup of rookies and reserves. Nevertheless, his team won its team-record 13th straight home game.
The Twins will not play again at home until Game 3 of the AL Division Series, but with a crowd of 32,986 cheering them on, Cuddyer sent rookie reliever Rafael Betancourt's 3-2 pitch over the center field fence.
Eddie Guardado then worked around a hit in the ninth for his 41st save of the season. With the crowd chanting "Eddie, Eddie," the lefthander struck out Chris Magruder to secure his 17th straight save.
