Florida 6, Philadelphia 5

MIAMI, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Josh Beckett pitched seven superb innings Wednesday night and Florida moved within reach of the NL wild card spot by downing Philadelphia, 6-5.

The Marlins took a three-game lead over both Philadelphia and Houston in the wild card race with four contests to play.

Florida grabbed a 6-0 lead with a four-run outburst in the sixth. Beckett limited Philadelphia to two hits over seven innings.

But Philadelphia rallied for five runs in the eighth, drawing within one run on Mike Lieberthal's sacrifice fly -- the first out of the inning.

Pat Burrell then flew out to shallow center and, after Jimmy Rollins walked, rookie Chase Utley struck out, ending the rally.

Ugueth Urbina tossed a perfect ninth for his fifth save.
