Golden Richards held the previous NCAA record with 219 yards in punt returns in 1971 for Brigham Young in a game against North Texas.

Perkins, a sophomore defensive back, scored his first two touchdowns in the second quarter to help Oklahoma (4-0) open a 28-10 halftime lead, and capped the day with his historic third touchdown with 2:39 left in the fourth quarter.

"Only my name goes down in the record book but I wish that the whole unit could go down in the books also," Perkins said. "I had confidence in (my blockers) and told them to go out and make something happen tonight. It's all them."

"We made (Perkins) look like a great player today," said UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell.

Jason White passed for 243 yards and two touchdowns, and Renaldo Works scored twice for the Sooners, who improved to 15-0 in September under Coach Bob Stoops.
