TCU loses Madison for season

FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Running back Ricky Madison of Texas Christian has been lost for the season after surgery on his right knee.

Madison injured the knee in the first quarter of last Saturday's 17-3 win at Navy. He fell to the ground clutching his knee after falling awkwardly while trying to plant his right leg. He was cleared to return to the field in the second quarter, but took two handoffs before having to leave again.

"Ricky was not only a great football player, but a great leader for this team," said Coach Gary Patterson. "It's a shame because he's a senior who has done everything right, on the field, in the weight room, and in the classroom. I'm very disappointed for Ricky."

In the Horned Frogs, season-opening win over Tulane, Madison carried 23 times for 115 yards. The 5-10, 200-pounder from Dallas carried the ball 377 times in his career for 1,536 yards, including a career-high 719 yards as a junior, when he averaged 4.6 yards per carry.
