Schuettler moves into quarterfinals

COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Rainer Schuettler breezed past Paul Goldstein, 6-0, 6-1, Thursday and moved into the quarterfinals of the Brazil Open.

After waiting out two days of rain, Schuettler has lost just three games in his first two matches. But the Australian Open finlaist from Germany maintains that is has not been the cakewalk that it appears.

In Friday's quarterfinals, Schuettler will take on unseeded Ramon Delgado, who advanced by upsetting No. 7 Flavio Saretta, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Brazilian Ricardo Mello posted the biggest win of his career with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over sixth-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela. Mello's quarterfinal foe will be third seed Gustavo Kuerten.

Kuerten won his seventh straight match in this event with a 6-2, 6-1 rout of Werner Eschauer of Austria.
