Lewis leads John Deere Classic

SILVIS, Ill., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- J.L. Lewis fired his second straight 65 Friday and opened a two-stroke lead during the rain-soaked second round of the John Deere Classic.

Rain fell throughout the day and play was suspended for 35 minutes during the late afternoon. The round ended with eight golfers still on the TPC at Deere Run course.

Lewis moved to 12-under 130, getting in before darkness settled over the course. First-round co-leader Jonathan Byrd fired a 4-under 67 and was two shots back.

Vijay Singh of Fiji had a 68 that put him at 8-under 134, alone in third place.

Chris Riley (69) and Paul Stankowski (65) were tied for fourth at 7-under 135. Bernhard Langer used a 65 to move into a tie for sixth with Kevin Sutherland (67) and Justin Leonard (67).
