Knee surgery for Rod Woodson

OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 11 (UPI) -- The suddenly injury-ravaged Oakland Raiders have two key starters on the shelf for at least the immediate future.

Defensive back Rod Woodson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday night, and wide receiver Jerry Porter is getting a second opinion after aggravating his abdominal/groin strain.

Both players were hurt in last week's season-opening loss at Tennessee. Porter likely will be upgraded from questionable to doubtful for Sunday's home opener against Cincinnati. It is unknown when Woodson will play again.

"It will be day to day and week to week," Coach Bill Callahan told the San Francisco Chronicle. "Historically, he has been a fast healer and hopefully he'll continue to be a fast healer."

Also, Woodson's likely replacement, Anthony Dorsett, is hobbling on knee and ankle injuries and could be unavailable. Currently, he is listed as questionable.

Also out are fullback Chris Hetherington and defensive end Sam Williams.
