Packers ink Antonio Freeman

GREEN BAY, Wis., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The Green Bay Packers have brought back Antonio Freeman to bolster a receiving corps already decimated by injuries.

Freeman, 31, who played in Green Bay from 1995-2001, on Wednesday reached agreement on a one-year deal at undisclosed terms.

Donald Driver, the Packers' top receiver, suffered a neck injury in Sunday's 30-25 loss to Minnesota, and will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. Robert Ferguson suffered ligament damage to his right knee and ankle against the Vikings, and Karsten Bailey, the No. 4 wide receiver, strained his hamstring.

The plethora of injuries left second-year veteran Javon Walker as Green Bay's lone healthy wide receiver.

Freeman played for the Philadelphia Eagles last season. He had 46 receptions for 600 yards and scored four touchdowns.

His best seasons came with the Packers. From 1995-2001, he had 417 catches for 6,510 yards and 57 touchdowns. Four times he had 60 or more receptions, and in the three-year period between 1997-99, he averaged 79.7 receptions, 1,247 yards, and 10.7 touchdowns.
