Florida 3, NY Mets 1

NEW YORK, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Alex Gonzalez had a two-run triple in the top of the ninth Tuesday as Florida kept a share of the NL wild card with a 3-1 win over the New York Mets.

Three Marlins pitchers combined on a six-hitter.

The Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies started the night tied for the wild card lead.

Blanked for six innings by Tom Glavine, Florida tied it in the seventh and used a big ninth to record its fourth consecutive win.

After working out of trouble in the eighth, Mets reliever David Weathers ran into more in the ninth. Jeff Conine led off with a single, pinch runner Andy Fox was sacrificed over by Juan Encarnacion and Derrek Lee was hit by a pitch.

Weathers (1-6) nearly escaped unscathed after striking out rookie Miguel Cabrera, but Gonzalez tripled just beyond the reach of diving center fielder Raul Gonzalez.
