Rain delays Brazil Open first round

COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Only two matches were completed Monday in the rain-plagued Brasil Open.

Paul Goldstein of the United States defeated Frederico Browne, 6-2, 6-0 and Russia's Wesley Moodie advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Ivan Miranda of Peru in the only matches completed.

Paraguay's Ramon Delgado had a 6-3, 5-1 lead over Mariano Puerta of Argentina and Gregory Carraz of France had a 4-1 edge against Germany's Alexander Popp before play was halted due to rain.

Top seed Rainer Schuettler of Germany was scheduled to play Brazilian Andre Sa in the opening round Monday night but had his match postponed until Tuesday.
