Molden, a seven-year veteran, was released by the Washington Redskins during training camp. His signing comes one day after a rousing 42-24 season-opening win over the Arizona Cardinals. The bad news was that the Lions allowed 344 yards passing

"Alex has been a starter in this league, and we feel he can help us," said Coach Steve Mariucci. "Our terminology will be foreign to him, but if he's a quick study, he could be ready for Sunday in Green Bay."

Molden, 30, spent his first five seasons with the New Orleans Saints before playing for San Diego the last two campaigns. He has 12 career interceptions, including three last season.
