Finneran has broken hand

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- The injury-riddled Atlanta Falcons have gotten another piece of bad news.

Starting wide receiver Brian Finneran could be sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering two broken bones in his left hand during Sunday's 27-13 season-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Finneran, an improving player, suffered the injury midway through the fourth quarter. He left the game and returned to the sidelines dressed in street clothes with a cast on his hand.

Finneran had two catches for 45 yards before getting hurt. Last season, he was the Falcons' leading receiver with 56 receptions for 838 yards and six touchdowns.

His loss is the second major blow to the Falcons' offense, which likely will be without star quarterback Michael Vick for at least the first month of the season with a broken right fibula.

They also are missing cornerback Tod McBride, who is recovering from a broken left thumb
