Roddick, Ferrero in U.S. Open final

NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- American Andy Roddick will meet Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final of the U.S. Open in Flushing, N.Y., Sunday.

"I'm pumped," Roddick said. "I came here so many times when I was younger. I can't believe I'm actually in a U.S. Open final. It would be great to go one step further. It's pretty special. I think you always want to do well in your home country. I always said if I had to pick a Grand Slam to win, it would be the U.S. Open."

Roddick saved a match point in the third set before rallying for a 6-7 (4-7), 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1, 6-3 victory over David Nalbandian on Saturday that put him in his first Grand Slam final.

Ferrero stunned top-seeded Andre Agassi, 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, to become the new world No. 1 and advance to the championship match here for the first time. He and Roddick have never met.
