WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Josh Harris passed for 357 yards and three touchdowns Saturday afternoon as Bowling Green surprised No. 20 Purdue, 27-26.
In the win, Harris tossed a 32-yard score to Charles Sharron with 2:08 remaining. It marked the first time Purdue (0-1) lost a season opener in seven seasons under Coach Joe Tiller.
After Sharron's score put Bowling Green (2-0) ahead, the Falcons conceded a safety in the final minute.
Purdue drove into Bowling Green territory in the final seconds, but elected not to attempt a long field goal. The Boilermakers' hopes ended when Taylor Stubblefield dropped a pass on 4th-and-10.
Kyle Orton also threw three touchdown passes for Purdue, including a 44-yarder to John Standeford that gave the Boilermakers a 24-20 lead 4:36 into the fourth quarter.
Bowling Green improved to 2-0 all-time against Purdue, also posting a 17-14 victory in 1972.
