J.T. Snow started the ninth with a single off Brian Fuentes (3-2). After Jose Cruz Jr. struck out, Barry Bonds narrowly missed a home run as he lined a ball off the right field wall for a single that moved Snow to third.

Alfonzo sent a 1-2 pitch into right field to score Young, giving San Francisco its fifth consecutive win.

Joe Nathan (9-3) worked a scoreless inning for the victory as four San Francisco relievers combined for 4 2/3 hitless frames.
