Reds activate Branyan

CINCINNATI, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The Cincinnati Reds have activated infielder-outfielder Russell Branyan from the 15-day disabled list.

Branyan had been on the DL since Aug. 13 with a high right ankle sprain. He suffered the injury in a 5-3 victory over San Francisco on Aug. 1, when he slid into a retaining wall in pursuit of a foul ball. He began the season on the DL after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in the offseason.

In 47 games this season, Branyan is hitting .218 after going 0-for-3 against Milwaukee on Thursday. He has five home runs and 14 RBI.

To make room for Branyan on the roster, the Reds optioned catcher Corky Miller to Triple-A Louisville of the International League. Miller appeared in four games for the Reds and had two hits in eight at-bats.
