Lions lose two to shoulder injuries

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The Detroit Lions took a major physical loss Thursday night when running back James Stewart suffered a dislocated right shoulder.

The injury occurred in the first quarter of a 22-16 preseason loss to Buffalo. On the play, Stewart was hit by Bills defensive back Coy Wire while he was fighting for a first down.

Coach Steve Mariucci said after the game that he is awaiting medical news about the severity of the injury.

"We're going to get MRIs tonight when we get back, and we'll know more tomorrow," Mariucci said. "We'll just keep our fingers crossed."

Linebacker Brian Williams suffered a similar injury.

"We'll find out in the morning, and then we'll go from there to see what kind of rehab is in front of them," he said.

Williams had missed the start of training camp while recovering from a broken ankle that ended his season prematurely last year.

Stewart led the Lions in rushing last year with 1,021 yards in 14 games.
