Cleveland 20, Atlanta 7

CLEVELAND, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Kelly Holcomb and Tim Couch both played well Thursday night as Cleveland defeated Atlanta, 20-9.

Holcomb, who supplanted Couch as the starting quarterback, completed four of six passes for 126 yards.

Couch followed by going seven of eight for 144 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown pass to Dennis Northcutt in the second quarter that gave the Browns a 17-6 lead.

William Green scored on a two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for the Browns (1-3), who host Indianapolis in their regular-season opener.

Atlanta's Doug Johnson, who will begin the season as the starter in place of the injured Michael Vick, went 11 of 21 for 147 yards. He found Peerless Price for a 33-yard touchdown pass in the second.
