Cleveland 9, Detroit 7

CLEVELAND, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Rookie Jody Gerut drove in four runs and Coco Crisp collected four hits and scored four times Wednesday night, leading Cleveland past Detroit, 9-7.

Gerut delivered a two-run home run in the third and a two-run double in the fourth, helping the Indians build a 6-1 lead.

Cleveland's Terry Mulholland, making his first start since Sept. 13, surrendered three homers in the fifth as the Tigers tied it on Brandon Inge's solo homer and two-run shots by Danny Klassen and Dmitri Young.

But the Indians snapped the tie on Casey Blake's RBI double off Chris Spurling (1-3) in the fifth and made it 9-6 in the sixth on run-scoring singles by Ryan Ludwick and Matt Lawton.
