Cardinals lose two for season

PHOENIX, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- The Arizona Cardinals suffered two major personnel losses late Tuesday when they learned defensive back Duane Starks and defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch are done for the year.

Starks injured his knee when he planted his left foot while changing direction on a sweep play in Friday night's preseason game against Chicago. An MRI revealed he tore the ACL in the left knee.

Vanden Bosch also tore the ACL in his left knee a week earlier against San Diego.

Coach Dave McGinniss was a bit distraught.

"We lost two good football players and they are gone for the year," he said. "There is no way to soften the blow of it. You've got two starting football players that are gone for the year and that is hard."

Starks signed as a free agent last year after four seasons with Baltimore. He has 22 career interceptions in 72 games.

Vanden Bosch had 3 ½ sacks last season. This is his second major knee injury.
