Redskins get Dalton from Denver

DENVER, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The Washington Redskins, who need help along the defensive line, have acquired Lional Dalton from the Denver Broncos for a conditional fifth-round draft pick.

Dalton had to leave practice Tuesday because of a slight case of heat exhaustion. He is a five-year veteran who is adept at stopping the run, and gives the team numbers at the position.

The Washington Post reported that Dalton arrived in town around noon, passed a physical, then was overcome by the heat this afternoon in his first practice in two weeks. He was helped from the field but was not hospitalized.

"Lional has quickness inside, which the defensive coaches are excited about," said Vice President of Football Operations Vinny Cerrato. "He has the size we were looking for in a defensive lineman, and he moves his feet very well for a big guy."

In Tuesday's player cuts, one of the victims was defensive tackle James Cannida, who the Redskins signed on Aug. 11 after the season-ending knee injury to Brandon Noble.
