Indians activate Vizquel

CLEVELAND, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Nine-time Gold Glove shortstop Omar Vizquel of Cleveland has been activated from the disabled list.

The move came after Vizquel missed two-and-a-half months following knee surgery. The Indians had a roster spot open after trading lefthander Brian Anderson to Kansas City for two minor leaguers on Monday.

Vizquel, 36, one of the most durable and surehanded shortstops of all time, underwent surgery to repair a torn MCL in his right knee on June 12. He suffered the injury sliding into home plate in a game on June 6 at Arizona.

He had played in at least 151 games in six of the previous seven seasons, and is batting .255 this season with two homers and 18 RBI while scoring 40 runs in 59 games for the Indians.
