Chicago Cubs 5, Arizona 3

PHOENIX, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Matt Clement had nine strikeouts in seven-plus innings Sunday to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 5-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Clement (11-11) allowed two runs and five hits with three walks. The righthander won on the road for the first time since June 16, when he beat the Cincinnati Reds.

After Danny Bautista singled to lead off the eighth, Kyle Farnsworth relieved Clement and sandwiched two walks around a strikeout. Shea Hillenbrand knocked in Bautista with a groundout, but Farnsworth got out of the jam by striking out Robby Hammock.

Joe Borowski came on for the ninth and gave up back-to-back singles to Carlos Baerga and Matt Kata. After Alex Cintron lined out, Bautista reached on an error by second baseman Ramon Martinez to load the bases.

Raul Mondesi walked to score Baerga, but Borowski struck out Junior Spivey and Steve Finley for his 23rd save.
