Astros activate Vizcaino

HOUSTON, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- The Houston Astros, who hold a slim lead atop the National League Central Division, have activated reserve infielder Jose Vizcaino from the 15-day disabled list.

Vizcaino had been on the DL since June 25, the day after he suffered a broken left wrist after getting hit by a pitch in a loss to Arizona.

Vizcaino, 36, is batting .240 (35-for-146) with two home runs and 19 RBI in 62 games. He played two games for Triple-A New Orleans on a rehabilitation assignment, and went 2-for-8 with a home run.

To open a roster spot, the Astros optioned infielder Eric Bruntlett to New Orleans. He batted .255 with one homer and four RBI in 26 games with Houston.

Also, the Astros have released reserve catcher Gregg Zaun, who hit .217 with one home run and three RBI in 59 games.

The Astros are one-half game in front of the Chicago Cubs for the lead in the NL Central.
