St. Louis linebacker Adam Archuleta forced Keyshaun Johnson to fumble in the second quarter. Herring recovered and ran in for a 10-0 lead.
Tampa Bay's Brad Johnson played the first two series and completed 7-of-9 passes. Bucs rookie Chris Simms threw a pair of short touchdown passes in the second half. St. Louis quarterbacks were a perfect 13-for-13 in the first half.
