ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Shaun Micheel made a birdie at the final hole Sunday to win the PGA Championship by two strokes.
The world's 169th-ranked player, Micheel shot an even-par 70 to finish at 4-under 276. Chad Campbell began the day with a share of the lead, but shot a 72 and was second at 278.
South African Tim Clark (69) was third at 279 as only three players bettered par on the Oak Hill course.
The 34-year-old Micheel, in only his third major, had never finished better than third in a PGA Tour event. It is the first time since 1969 that all four major winners have been first-timers.
Tiger Woods recorded his worst result in 28 majors since turning pro as he shot a 73 to tie for 39th at 12-over 292.
