Tampa Bay 5, Cleveland 3

CLEVELAND, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Mark Malaska led a strong effort by the Tampa Bay bullpen and Jared Sandberg homered as the Devil Rays beat Cleveland 5-3 Saturday night.

Tampa Bay's bullpen combined for 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only three hits, ending the Indians' four-game winning streak., Malaska (2-1) was the first of four relievers and he struck out a pair in retiring all four batters he faced.

Brandon Backe allowed two hits in two innings, Jesus Colome

pitched a hitless eighth inning and All-Star closer Lance Carter got the final three outs for his 21st save in 27 chances.

Sandberg delivered a two-run homer off Indians starter Cliff Lee (1-1) in the second inning that gave Tampa Bay a 4-0 advantage. Toby Hall's leadoff single preceded the homer.
