ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Shaun Micheel birdied four of his last five holes Friday to take a two-shot, 36-hole lead at the PGA Championship.
Micheel, 73rd on the 2003 money list, is trying to become the second straight unlikely winner of a major championship. Ben Curtis became the shocking champion at the British Open and missed the cut Friday.
Micheel started the round at the 10th hole and he finished with birdies at the fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth at the Oak Hill Country Club course. He shot 68 for a two-day total of 3-under 137.
Tiger Woods, seeking his first major win of the year, had a 72 and was nine shots behind.
Defending champion Rich Beem and Davis Love missed the cut.
