ATLANTA, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Javy Lopez hit a pair of solo homers and Chipper Jones and Gary Sheffield each added a solo shot Thursday night, giving Atlanta a 7-4 win over San Diego.

Jones and Lopez hit solo shots in the second inning to erase a 1-0 deficit before Sheffield homered in a three-run sixth.

Ortiz (17-5) won for the 10th time in his last 11 starts, allowing three runs and five hits in seven-plus innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.

The Padres made it interesting in the eighth as Lou Merloni reached Ray King for a two-run double and Phil Nevin delivered an RBI single off Kevin Gryboski.

But Lopez hit his second homer in the bottom of the eighth and John Smoltz got the final four outs for his 43rd save.
