Toronto 5, Seattle 3

SEATTLE, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Mark Hendrickson pitched 6 2/3 solid innings to get his first win in his home state Monday night as Toronto beat Seattle, 5-3.

In the win, Aquilino Lopez struck out Bret Boone to end the game with the Mariners threatening.

The 6-9 Hendrickson (7-8), a native of Mount Vernon, Wash., played college basketball at Washington State. The southpaw was making his first start in his home state, and made the most of it, allowing two runs, nine hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Hendrickson left after being hit in the arm with a line drive off the bat of Rey Sanchez. The Mariners had the bases loaded in the ninth, when Lopez, ironically a Rule V draftee of Seattle, fanned Boone on an off-speed pitch to get his fourth save of the season and second in his last three outings.

Seattle starter Joel Pineiro (13-7) now has lost two straight starts after winning eight decisions in a row.
