Hudson (11-4) held baseball's top offense to two infield singles. The righthander, who got his fourth consecutive victory, did not allow a runner to reach second base, walked one, and struck out seven.

It was his second shutout of the season and sixth of his career. He improved to 62-8 lifetime when pitching at least seven innings, something he has done in seven straight starts and 21 of 26 this season.

Martinez (8-3), coming off his first complete game since May 3, lasted just five innings. Boston's ace allowed two runs and five hits, walked two and struck out seven.

The loss was his first since yielding five runs in five innings at Minnesota on May 9.
